With the current term of the CEO of KLM (Ms. Rintel) expiring, SPAAK, as a shareholder in Air France-KLM, has formulated a position on the assignment for the coming 2026-2030 term[1]. Based on its statutory objectives, SPAAK has identified the following elements that should be included in the assignment for the upcoming term:
Ensure the financial health and future sustainability of KLM
Develop and implement a strategy that structurally strengthens KLM's profitability and elevates it to the level of relevant international peers.
Within this strategy the following should be emphasized: punctuality and operational stability; reorganization of KLM's business structure; growth of a profitable network; modernization of processes and IT; and cost control without compromising customer experience or employee interests.
This requires formulating a compelling vision for KLM's future and communicating it in a motivating and engaging way.
Support for the CEO's vision and position from inside the organization is crucial.
Achieve results in the current political and public climate
Ensure that KLM takes a convincing and credible position in the public debate about the future of aviation in the Netherlands and the EU.
Find the right balance in this context between sustainability, profitability, and competitiveness.
Achieve results with regards to European regulation in relation to a level playing field (within Europa) and fair competition (with non-European airlines).
Restore and maintain trust with the government, within the public debate, and employees through clear and consistent communication.
Secure a strong KLM within a strong Air France-KLM group
Maintain and strengthen KLM's autonomous position and clear brand identity within the group.
There should be no marginalization of KLM's position within the group and a fair distribution of investments and growth opportunities should be established.
Build a constructive collaboration with group management, ensuring that KLM interests are represented effectively and equitably within the goal of a strong Air France-KLM group.
Build on the relationship with the pilots and other employees
Approach the relationship with the pilots on the basis of partnership and trust.
Build on the improved relationships of recent years and translate these into sustainable collaboration and respectful employment conditions.
High social standards for all employees should be emphasized.
